VI-Line helps military communicators write cleaner captions and cutlines faster.

Fill in the fields on the left, get a properly formatted DoD-style cutline on the right, and run it through the built-in style checker before you submit.

It's a drafting aid - not official approval, command review, or legal clearance. Always run your final caption through your unit's normal review and release process.

Who runs this

VI-Line is operated by CG Web Lab LLC. In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" refer to CG Web Lab LLC.

Short version

VI-Line does not store your data on our servers. Everything you type into the form runs in your browser. We don't have user accounts, we don't collect personal information about you, and we don't sell or share data.

What stays in your browser

To make the tool work, VI-Line uses your browser's localStorage to keep things on your device:

• Your last 20 generated cutlines (the "history" feature)
• Anonymous usage counters (sessions opened, cutlines generated, minutes saved) that power the on-page stats strip

This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data or by using the "Clear All" button in the history panel.

What we don't collect

• We don't ask for your name, email, rank, unit, or any account information.
• We don't have a backend database storing your captions or cutlines.
• We don't run third-party analytics or tracking pixels on this page.
• The form contents you type - names, ranks, units, locations, action descriptions, generated cutlines - are not transmitted to us.
• The session counters in the stats strip (sessions, minutes, cutlines generated) live only in your browser. We don't see them.

Hosting

VI-Line is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel may collect standard HTTP request logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) for operational and security purposes. See Vercel's privacy policy for details.

Operational Security (OPSEC)

Although VI-Line does not transmit your inputs, you are still responsible for OPSEC on the device and network you use. Do not enter classified, controlled unclassified (CUI), or otherwise sensitive information into any web tool, including this one.

Changes

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the "Last updated" date above will change. There are no email notifications because we don't have your email.

What VI-Line is

VI-Line is a writing aid for military visual information professionals. It helps you draft and self-check captions and cutlines against common style guidance.

What VI-Line is not

• It is not official command, public affairs, or legal review.
• It is not a release authority. Output from this tool is not approved for public distribution by any DoD component.
• It is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or operated on behalf of the Department of Defense, DINFOS, any service branch, or any U.S. government entity.
• It does not verify accuracy. You are responsible for the factual content of every caption you produce.

Your responsibilities

• Run your final caption through your unit's normal review and release process before publication.
• Do not enter classified or controlled unclassified information (CUI) into the tool.
• Comply with your service's PA policy (DoDI 5400.13, AR 360-1, SECNAVINST 5720.44, AFI 35-101, etc.) and your local command guidance.

No warranty

VI-Line is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. CG Web Lab LLC makes no guarantees about availability, uptime, accuracy of style checks, or fitness for any particular use. Use of this tool is at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CG Web Lab LLC, its members, officers, and contributors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, claims, or losses arising from your use of, or inability to use, VI-Line - including any caption, cutline, or related content you produce with it.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CG Web Lab LLC from any claim or demand arising out of your use of VI-Line, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and, where applicable, the state in which CG Web Lab LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Acceptable use

Don't try to break, scrape, or abuse the service. Don't use it for anything illegal. Don't use it to generate content you don't have the right to publish.

Changes

These terms may change. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
